Privacy at StoryVox — In Plain English
This is a friendly summary of our Privacy Policy. The legal document controls if there's any conflict.
TL;DR
- We collect what we need to run StoryVox and nothing more.
- We don't sell your data. We don't run ad pixels. We don't share with advertisers.
- We don't train AI on your content — your text, your voice, your audiobooks stay yours.
- You can delete your account and your data, anytime, in-app.
- Voice samples have extra protection — see below.
What we collect
Stuff you give us: your email, name, password (which we hash, so we never see the real thing), the text you upload, your voice samples (when you clone), and any settings you save.
Stuff your browser gives us automatically: your IP address, your browser type, what features you use, basic logs of when you use the service.
Payment stuff: your card details go to Stripe, our payment processor and merchant of record — we never see or store your full card number. We get back the last 4 digits, the brand, and a confirmation that you paid.
That's it. No phone number, no location, no health info, no demographics. We don't even use Google Analytics.
What we do with it
Run the service. Take your money. Send you the audiobook. Send you a receipt. Stop bad guys from breaking things. Build product analytics so we know what's used and what isn't.
That's the whole list. We don't trade your data for anything.
Who we share with
A small number of behind-the-scenes service providers, all of which only process data on our instructions:
- Database & login provider — runs our account system
- Hosting provider — hosts the website
- GPU compute provider — runs the math that generates the audio
- Stripe — handles payments and taxes (merchant of record)
- Product analytics provider — anonymous usage analytics
- Email delivery provider — sends you transactional emails (receipts, password resets, etc.)
- CDN provider — content delivery and DDoS protection

We may also share data when the law forces us to, when we're protecting against fraud or security incidents, or if StoryVox is acquired. We will never sell your data.
Voice samples are special
When you clone a voice, the audio sample and the cloned model are biometric data. We treat that more carefully:
- You give us explicit consent, including a recorded statement.
- We delete raw samples after 30 days unless you renew (we'll email you before deletion).
- We delete cloned voice models when you delete the voice, when you close your account, or after 3 years of not using that voice — whichever happens first.
- We never sell, lease, or train models on biometric data.
- Your raw voice upload is private — only you and our service providers can see it. The short clip you hear in the voice picker (a few seconds of your cloned voice saying a sample line) is a synthesized preview, not your original recording.

How long we keep things

Cookies
Only the essential ones — the cookie that keeps you logged in, basically. No advertising cookies. No tracking pixels. No banners needed.
Your rights
You can:
- See your data — email us, we'll show you
- Correct your data — most of it is editable in-app; otherwise email us
- Delete your account — in-app, anytime
- Get a copy of your data — email us and we'll send it
- Withdraw consent for voice biometrics — delete the voice in-app
We respond within 45 days.

Where your data lives
In the United States. If you're in Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, by using StoryVox you understand your data is processed in the U.S.
We don't operate in the EU, the UK, or Illinois.
Kids
StoryVox is for adults. No one under 18. If you're a parent and think we accidentally have data on your kid, email us — we'll delete it.
Security
Encrypted in transit (TLS). Encrypted at rest. Salted password hashes. Access is restricted. We do our best, but no system is bulletproof — if something bad happens, we'll tell you.
Changes
If we make a meaningful change to this policy, we'll email you and put it on the website. Small fixes just get a "last updated" date bump.
